New Website and Online Repository available

I was having problems with the previous website because it was almost always offline.

I was looking for an alternative hosting to store the repository and then I also decided to migrate the blog to this new website.

For use the online repository, you need to connect the PS3 to the internet, open a lxterminal and download the file:

wget http://downloads.redribbongnulinux.comxa.com/online-update-2016-03-18.sh

Then, you can execute it:

sudo sh online-update-2016-03-18.sh

New Online Update available

This update has been designed for Red Ribbon LXDE 14.03 and RC 7. It includes the following changes:

  • Iceweasel (Firefox) updated to the 30 release.
  • Added a new version of the Red Ribbon theme.
  • Systemd is now the system management daemon.
  • The "Logout" window, the "System settings" window, the "Petitboot setup" tool and the "Video mode setup" tool were migrated to the latest GTK 3 libraries.
  • All the available updates from Debian Jessie.

You need to connect the PS3 to the internet, open a lxterminal and download the file:

wget http://downloads.redribbongnulinux.comxa.com/online-update-2014-07-15.sh

Then, you must execute it:

sudo sh online-update-2014-07-15.sh

And wait until finished. Then, you must logout and login again.

This update will be included on the next release of the LiveCD.

If while executing it asks:

You are attempting to install a kernel image (version 3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686) However, the directory /lib/modules/3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686/kernel still exists. If this directory belongs to a previous linux-image-3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686 package, and if you have deselected some modules, or installed standalone modules packages, this could be bad.

If /lib/modules/3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686/kernel belongs to an old install of linux-image-3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686, then this is your last chance to abort the installation of this kernel image (nothing has been changed yet).

If you know what you are doing, and if you feel that this image should be installed despite this anomaly, Please answer n to the question.

Otherwise, I suggest you move /lib/modules/3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686/kernel out of the way, perhaps to /lib/modules/3.12.6-red-ribbon-i686.kernel.old or something, and then try re-installing this image.

Stop install since the kernel-image is already installed?

You must answer NO.

This update will be included on the next release of the LiveCD.

New Online Update available

This update has been designed only for the RC 6 and It includes the following changes:

  • Added a 3.6.7 kernel with the Graf_chokolo's, Marcan's and Gitbrew's patches.
  • Added PS3-utils.
  • Added Mplayer.

You need to connect the PS3 to the internet, open a lxterminal and download the file:

wget http://downloads.redribbongnulinux.comxa.com/online-update-2012-11-21.sh

Then, you can execute it:

And wait until finished.

Once you have booted using the new kernel version, if you want to remove the old 3.5.2 kernel versions, you can do it using the Synaptic package manager or executing the next command on a lxterminal:

apt-get remove linux-image-3.5.2-red-ribbon-powerpc64-asbestos  linux-image-3.5.2-red-ribbon-powerpc64-otheros linux-headers-3.5.2-red-ribbon-powerpc64-asbestos linux-headers-3.5.2-red-ribbon-powerpc64-otheros

This update will be included on the next release of the LiveCD.

New Online Update available

This update integrates the wireless driver for the slims models developed by gitbrew. It has been designed only for the RC 5 or lower and It will be included on the next release of the LiveCD.

This driver only supports STA mode (infrastructure) and WPA/WPA2 for now.

You need to connect the PS3 to the internet using the wired connection, open a lxterminal and download the file:

wget http://downloads.redribbongnulinux.comxa.com/online-update-2011-11-21.sh

Then, you can execute it:

sudo sh online-update-2011-11-21.sh

And wait until finished.

If while executing it asks:

You are running a kernel (version 2.6.38-powerpc64) and attempting to remove the same version. This is a potentially disastrous action. Not only will /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-powerpc64 be removed, making it impossible to boot it, (you will have to take action to change your boot loader to boot a new kernel), it will also remove all modules under the directory /lib/modules/2.6.38-powerpc64. Just having a copy of the kernel image is not enough, you will have to replace the modules too.

I repeat, this is very dangerous. If at all in doubt, answer Yes. If you know exactly what you are doing, and are prepared to hose your system, then answer No.

Do you want to abort removal now?

You must answer NO.
